We offer sample testing as an Independent Lab per ASTM standards along with sample preparation to include casting, cutting, curing, drying, and firing. Additionally, REFRACTORY DEPOT offers sample preparation boxes, baskets, and trays that are designed per ASTM requirements and constructed for ruggedness and for longevity. SAMPLE TESTING
Samples of refractory monolithic specialties may be tested per ASTM standards. The primary tests provided as an Independent Lab follow:
Abrasion Resistance --- ASTM C-704 using plates 4.5" x 4.5"' x 1"
Bulk Density --- ASTM C-134 using cubes 2" x 2" x 2"
Cold Crushing Strength --- ASTM C-133 using cubes 2" x 2" x 2"
Cold Modulus of Rupture --- ASTM C-133 using bars 9.5" x 2" x 2"
Permanent Linear Change --- ASTM C-179 using bars 9.5" x 2" x 2"
Sample Preparation --- Using trays and shoe-boxes including casting, hand-packing, free-flowing, curing, drying and firing
Sample Cutting --- Using shoe-boxes or gunning baskets
"GUNNING BOX"
Wire mesh basket made for collecting "gunned" samples of monolithic refractory specialties in the field. The basket is built for ASTM standards --- basket size is 12" x 12" x 4" and is packaged as a twelve-pack - 12 baskets minimum order.
"SHOE BOX"
Plexiglass box for collecting samples of monolithics that are cast, pumped, or free-flowed in the field. The box is built for ASTM standards --- sample size is 9" x 4.5" x 4.5" and may dis-assembled and re-used repeatedly.
"3-2-1 TRAY"
Plexiglass box for preparing samples of monolithics that are cast, pumped, or hand-packed. The tray contains 3 cubes (2" x 2" x 2") for bulk density and cold-crush testing, 2 plates (4.5" x 4.5" x 1") for erosion resistance testing, and 1 bar (9" x 2" x 2") for permanent linear change and modulus of rupture testing. The tray is built for ASTM testing and may be dis-assembled and re-used repeatedly.
"3 CUBE TRAY"
Plexiglass box for preparing samples of monolithics that are cast, pumped, or hand-packed. The tray contains 3 cubes (2" x 2" x 2") for bulk density and cold-crush testing. The tray is built for ASTM standards and may be dis-assembled and re-used repeatedly.
"2 Plate Tray"
Plexiglass box for preparing samples of monolithics that are cast, pumped, or hand-packed. The tray contains 2 plates (4.5" x 4.5" x 1") for erosion resistance testing (C-704). The tray is built for ASTM standards and may be dis-assembled and re-used repeatedly.
"1 BAR TRAY"
Plexiglass box for preparing samples of monolithics that are cast, pumped, or hand-packed. The tray contains 1 bar (9" x 2" x 2") for permanent linear change and modulus of rupture testing. The tray is built for ASTM standards and may be dis-assembled and re-used repeatedly.
"6 BAR TRAY"
Plexiglass gang-box for preparing samples of monolithics that are cast, pumped, hand-packed,or free-flowed. The tray contains 6 bars (9" x 2" x 2") for evaluating permanent linear change, modulus of rupture testing, bulk density, and cold-crushing strength. The tray is built for ASTM standards and may be dis-assembled and re-used repeatedly.
"E" Glass --- Erosion Loss Control Plate
"E" Glass plates for calibrating and standard control of erosion loss testing equipment. The "E" glass plates (4.5" x 4.5" x 1") are designed for erosion resistance testing per ASTM C-704 specification.
